Atlanta History Center-Getzamany's Blog Post #2

Hello everyone,

I have enjoyed reading through the blog posts and seeing all the great things you all are doing at your internships! Keep up the great work!
For my second week at the Atlanta History Center, I was working on Public Programming and finding sponsorships for NUEVOlution. I was also helping out with the Summer History Camp on Weird History: Inventions. I enjoyed working with the children as they are all energized, flexible, and honest. I was surprised by how quickly they picked on instructions and went with the flow. They were all working on creating "goofy gadgets, crazy contraptions, dubious devices, and history’s most bizarre inventions.” However, I was only able to work with them for a complete day. The other days I was researching or doing something for other staff members at AHC. My internship is incredibly flexible since the NUEVOlution exhibit won’t open until next January, so if I am not working on that I usually help with the summer camp. Working on NUEVOlution reminds me a lot of Washington Week and the project we worked on since I am looking for sponsorships [shout out to the Nopalitxs!]. My work at AHC is not exactly being implemented now, but I know it will be used eventually and I am looking forward to seeing how my research is received by the staff. Also, I got exciting news this week from a staff member that they’d like for me to come back for winter break. I, of course, eagerly agreed to come back to help finalize NUEVOlution since they’ll need a lot more help then. The news came with my official AHC badge implicating I am no longer a visitor here but an actual intern. The badge really helped me feel like I’ve officially settled in at AHC. As for next week, I will be working with the summer camp so I am looking forward to not being behind the desk for a while. In retrospect, I had a lovely week at the AHC researching and learning more about what it means to work at a museum.
