Rocio Chavez: ¡explora! - Blog # 3

Hola Familia,

During this week I helped with summer camp, outreach, prep, and group tours. Most of the week I had one group tour and either a summer camp or an outreach. The camp that I worked on this week was called “Crazy Concoctions”. Children from grades K-1st learned about the wonders of colors and their properties. The group Leader emphasized on teaching the colors in Spanish and sign language. A great part of the camp required washing materials, so they could be used in the next activity. I was only able to help in the camp three days, the rest of the week I went on outreaches.

The outreaches were to different libraries in Albuquerque. This Thursday we went to a library in an under served minority community. Unfortunately no one attended the outreach, so we ended-up doing the activity with the librarian. Today, Friday, we went to a library in the urban area of Albuquerque, we had 11 people participating. The topic for this outreach was on traditional Chihuahua pottery. Participants were able to observe broken pieces of pottery through a microscope, use a molcajete to make a pigment, make paintbrushes, and make their own pot.

And the highlight of my week was that I was offered a part-time job at explora!!!!

Buena Suerte!
