Christian Pelaez - The Children's Museum of Houston

Hello Everyone

Well week 3 is in the books and I must say it was absolutely great. Things are running pretty smoothly in regards to work load, time management, and things of that sort. On Monday's the Museum conducts the BASF Chemical Company labs and this week's lab was about electricity and circuits. Let me tell you the experience was absolutely fantastic, even I was blown away by the lab. Creating electricity from Lemons was definitely an elaborate process in which I was able to quickly learn and teach younger children how to turn a lightbulb on, in a unorthodox way. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it and so did the kids, many came up to me after class and thanked me for leading them through the complex process always being of aid to them of ofcourse. The rest of the week was pretty relaxed nothing out of the status quo happened. I am working for multiple educators though; being assigned bountiful projects and assignments to which I work countless hours delivering only the best to my superiors. I was assigned to work a slime lab which was rather interesting I must say. However, it was held on a Saturday so it was a little unexpected, of course this was not anything I could not handle. The lab was great though we made 3 types of slim in every session and we had 7 paid sessions all day, so I would say a rather heavy day, but it being a Saturday and all I had the next day to recuperate and get back to work on Monday.

Week 3 provided me with many ups and gave me plenty of experience. I must say I am pretty skilled at teaching children new concepts. Now some of you may say to yourself "wow Christian's internship experience sounds amazing. I wonder if he has encountered any problems while working there?" Well let me tell you, I have faced numerous obstacles ranging from deciding whether I wanna drive to the internship and deal with traffic or if I wanna commute on the train and deal with the distasteful smells. To answering questions I had no idea what they were talking about. So I would say I have faced some obstacles in which I was able to successfully overcome and I owe this to no other, but the Smithsonian Latino Center and more specifically the Young Ambassadors Program and their more than capable staff who spent countless hours during Washington Week training me to become a better a person; a true latino leader who will stand in adversity, he will stand and fight against injustice and he will teach children how to make circuits and 3 types of slim.

Thank you

Christian Pelaez
